The first football matches on the islanbd took place in 1914, at the Champ d'Arbaud in Basse-Terre. The Ligue Sportive de la Grande-Terre was founded in 1931 and the Union Sportive Basse-Terrienne in 1933; in 1939 they merged into the Fédération Sportive de Guadeloupe.
