Zuid I Eerste Klasse 1948/49
For the third year in succession the district championship
is won, two points ahead of Limburgia (who were to win the
Dutch championship in the following season), mainly thanks
to the prefect home record (10 wins out of 10 and 27 goals
to 2!).
Unfortunately, home form in the championship playoff is
far less impressive, otherwise B.V.V. would easily have
repeated the success of the previous season.
Even so, a draw (rather than a 1-2 loss) at S.V.V. on May 29
would have ensured a playoff, but the title really is lost
by being the only team to fail to score at home against
A.G.O.V.V. (who conceded one goal in all other away matches)
and bottom club N.O.A.D. (who lost all other away matches
by 3 or more...).
In the end, a commendable second place behind S.V.V., who
become the second Dutch club to win the title directly
after earning promotion to the Eerste Klasse in the previous
season (Ajax had done the same in 1918/19, and D.W.S. were
to repeat it in 1963/64). All matches in the playoff are
