The first player to score a hat-trick for India was striker Lumsden, in a friendly
match against Australia during Australia Tour of 1938.
After independence, the first player to do so was Sheoo Mewalal in a 4-0 victory over
Burma in the 1952 Colombo Quadrangular Tournament.
Neville D'Souza scored a hat-trick at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, the first Asian
to do so in the history of Olympics football.
K. Appalaraju and Sunil Chhetri are the only Indian footballers to have scored a
hat-trick more than once. Appalaraju scored twice in the 1964 Olympic Qualifiers.
Chhetri scored thrice, most recent during the 2018 Intercontinental Cup.
