Oldest and Youngest Players and Goal-scorers in International Football

There follow lists of the oldest and youngest players and goal-scorers in international football history (matches between national teams), based on information known to the authors at the time of writing. There are also lists of the oldest débutants, and the players with the longest "career" span (between first and last appearances).

These lists are very likely to be incomplete, particularly the women's lists, due to the lamentable unavailability of sufficiently detailed and accurate historical information for many countries.

Additions or corrections are welcomed by the authors (nfm24(AT)cantab.net) - any potential additional cases should preferably be evidenced. Any player who would rather not have his/her birth-date published here is advised to contact the authors.

country, winning the World Cup in 2000.

    Unconfirmed last appearance:

    Notes:
[ 1]. This match was not a full international (instead termed a "Victory international").
[ 2]. The Korea F.A. regards this match as a full international vs Taiwan (meaning the Republic of China), but the
opposition was actually a Combined Chinese selection in Hong Kong - however, the Chinese Taipei F.A. now counts
the match as an international also. One day earlier, Kim played (and scored) for South Korea in a 6-3 win vs
All-Hong Kong (H.K.F.A.) and that match is also regarded by the Korea F.A. as a full international.
[ 3]. Some sources report that Maiani scored an own-goal in this match (though other sources attribute the goal to
James Grimes of Canada). The match is a full international for San Marino but not for Canada.
[ 4]. This match was not a full international (Olympic teams: Under-23 with three over-age players).

    Notes:
[ 1]. It is unclear whether this match was Taylor's first. Information is incomplete for earlier matches of the U.S.V.I.
[ 2]. Westphal was also named in the squad for the matches on 27-Apr-2008 (2-3 vs Guam) and 19-Jun-2010 (1-1 vs Guam) but
it is unconfirmed whether he played in either of those matches.

[ 4]. The precise dates of birth of Henderson and Wilson are unknown.
[ 5]. Morten's precise date of birth is unknown. He was aged 68 upon his death on 24-Feb-1900,
so his birth-date was between 25-Feb-1831 and 24-Feb-1832, and thus he must have been aged
between 41y 12d and 42y 11d at the time of his début. In any case, his was the earliest
birth-date of any international footballer. He also played in an unofficial international match
on 5-Mar-1870 for Scotland XI (1-1 vs England XI).
[ 6]. Gallacher (originally spelled Gallagher) had played previously from 1919-1927 for (Northern) Ireland, i.e. the I.F.A. team.

[ 8]. The match is a full international for San Marino but not for Canada.
[ 9]. The match was a full international for Saar but not for Switzerland.
[10]. This match was not a full international (Olympic teams: Under-23 with three over-age players).
Giggs had played previously for Wales from 1991-2007.
[11]. Kim and Lee had played previously for Japan; Kim from 1936-40, Lee in 1940.
[12]. The Korea F.A. regards this match as a full international vs Taiwan (meaning the Republic of China), but the
opposition was actually a Combined Chinese selection in Hong Kong - however, the Chinese Taipei F.A. now regards
the match as a full international also.
[13]. The match is a full international for the F.A.I. but not for the F.I.G.C. (Italy). Lacey had played previously from
1909-1924 for first (All-)Ireland and then (Northern) Ireland, i.e. the I.F.A. team.
    [14]. Unofficial international.
[15]. Sewell had played previously for England from 1951-54.
[16]. Simpson had played previously for the United Kingdom (amateur team) in the 1948 Olympic Games.
[17]. Hannon had played previously for (All-)Ireland from 1908-13. His only two matches for the Irish Free State
were at the 1924 Olympic Games and are not recognized as full internationals for the F.A.I.

    Men - Longest 'Career' Span

Caveat: Some of the players listed below were given a farewell cameo appearance several years after their regular career had already ended.
These are Koúdas, Cueto, Khadzipanayís, Hurtado, and Hugo Sánchez, none of whom would have spanned 20 years otherwise.

    Notes:
[ 1]. FIFA list Saqr's birth date as 8-Nov-1918; other variations given include 14-Apr-1918 and 14-Apr-1922.
[ 2]. This match is not generally considered as a full international.
[ 3]. Various spelling variations exist. Birth date as above from CAF documents; alternatively given as 31-Dec-1997.
The above match was a friendly between "CHAN" teams (restricted to domestically based players).
[ 4]. Musonda's birth date is also given as 7-Mar-1967.
[ 5]. Lambo may also have scored earlier on 12-Oct-1990 (7-1 vs Mauritania), aged 14y 151d if his birth-date is accurate.
[ 6]. Masina's birth-date is also given as 3-Apr-1983, which if correct means he was aged 16y 36d.

    Unconfirmed cases:
       José Brachi Uruguay 13-15y 1893-94 13-Sep-1908 (1-2 vs Argentina) [10] Age 13y 257d to 15y 256d

    Notes:
[10]. Brachi's birth-year is unconfirmed but is given by one source as 1894, which if correct would mean
          that he was aged between 13y 257d and 14y 256d. Another source gives 1893 (so aged between 14y 257d and 15y 256d).
[11]. Potential confusion with other players named Dlamini.
