Vivian John Woodward scored 29 goals in 23 official matches for the
English national team, making him the most prolific scorer for England
before World War II.  In addition, he scored 44 goals in 30 matches for
the England Amateurs, who played 39 matches against opponents from
the European continent between 1906 and 1914, which all counted as 
official internationals for their respective opponents, if not for
England themselves.  So, in total, Woodward scored 73 goals in 53
matches considered official internationals by the opposing sides.
