Played between past winners of the Copa Libertadores. Starting from the 1997 edition, also Vasco da Gama was admitted, as winners of the 1948 South American Champions Cup, played in Santiago de Chile.
In 1998, the tournament was to be replaced by a cup contested by former winners of the Supercopa, which was eventually scratched.
Tournament has essentially been replaced by the Copa Mercosur.
