SEMIFINALS
26.07.30 Montevideo Argentina 6-1 USA
27.07.30 Montevideo Uruguay 6-1 Yugoslavia
No match for third place; in contemporary newspapers appearing in
Yugoslavia early September it is claimed Yugoslavia were awarded
the third place for having lost to the eventual winners rather than
the runners-up, supposedly in accordance with olympic regulations;
no official stance of FIFA is known on this - in 1984 an official
FIFA report claimed Yugoslavia beat the USA 3-1 in a match for 3rd
place but that is obvious nonsense (a match was played but as a
friendly); according to the rules applied in later World Cup
tournaments (comparing the overall records of teams eliminated at
the same stage), the USA would be 3rd (for having conceded one
goal less in their three matches).
