Since the Caribbean club championships were only played in November, the
CONCACAF, chaired by Jack Warner, invited Joe Public of Trinidad and Tobago as
Caribbean representative. Joe Public finished second behind Defence Force in
their domestic league in 1997, but Jack Warner coincidentally happens to be the
chairman of Joe Public.
