The Philippine team lacked some of their better players who were unavailable due to work or injury and had to rely on youngsters from Bohemian's junior league side. The Chinese team was decided after a match between South China and Shanghai selections which the Southerners won 4-1.
Rain made the pitch greasy, and the ball often stopped in puddles of water. In the second half (30 minutes each way) the Chinese changed their game plan abandoning the short pass style to the long ball. From one of the long passes Wong Pak Chung headed the game's only goal, Joaquin Lopez appealed that it was offside to no avail. A fierce rivalry had developed between the teams. The Chinese saw the Indo-European Philippinos as symbols of oppression, and a rough match ensued with each team having a player sent off.

In a hard-fought match the Chinese team were put on the defensive as the Philippines attacked constantly. Cheung Wing Hon cleared one of the attacks and Wong Pak Chung headed the ball on to Yip Kwai Seng, who saw the Goalkeeper off his line and shot from 20 yards into the net. This made the Philippinos more determined and the Chinese tried to keep possession of the ball and slow the game down. Near the end of the match, Leung Yu Tong lost the ball and the Philippines managed to equalise. However, thanks to their victory in the first match China were the Champions.
