Northern Mariana Islands representative football team ("the Blue Ayuyu")

This document gives information on the matches of the representative football (soccer) team of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (C.N.M.I.) at senior international level.

As far as is known, the first occasion on which a representative team was assembled was in 1998 when the Northern Mariana Islands Soccer Federation (N.M.I.S.F.) organized a team for an exhibition tournament held in Palau during the Micronesian Games. The N.M.I.S.F. had been registered as an associate member of the Oceania Football Confederation (O.F.C.) since 1983, though apparently it had not participated in any international events prior to 1998.

The N.M.I.S.F. became defunct around 2002-3 and there was then a hiatus until a new organizing body, the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association (N.M.I.F.A.), was founded in 2005.

The N.M.I.F.A. has fielded senior men's and women's representative teams since 2007, and has been affiliated to the East Asian Football Federation (E.A.F.F.) as an associate member since 2006 (becoming a full member in 2008), and to the Asian Football Confederation (A.F.C.) as an associate member since 2009 (with full membership status to be ratified at the 2015 congress). It is not a member of F.I.F.A. at present.

Note: the associate membership of the O.F.C. was "resigned" by the N.M.I.F.A. in 2009, despite that it was actually the earlier N.M.I.S.F. which had joined the O.F.C. in the first place.
