Pan American style games for athletes with a disability were organized for the first time in Mexico City in 1999. The first football tournaments were included in the III Parapan American Games in 2007. Two different kinds of football games have been included up to now: Five a side: Sport for blind and visually-impaired athletes. This is ruled by "International Blind Sport Federation" (IBSA) and it is played with modified futsal FIFA rules. Teams use one guide, who is positioned off the field, to assist players. The balls have a noise-making device which allows players to locate it by sound. Matches consist of two 25-minute halves, with a ten-minute break at half-time. Seven a side: This sport is an adaption of football association FIFA rules for athletes with cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders, including stroke and traumatic brain injury. The sport is ruled by "Cerebral Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association" (CP-ISRA). The field is lower than the football association one. No offside rule is included. There is permission for one-handed throw-ins. Matches consist of two thirty-minute halves, with a fifteen-minute half-time break. Medal Winners Sport: Five a Side (Blind Futsal).
