Name changes 1970-72

Between the 1969/70 and 1972/73 seasons, during which period no league or cup
tournaments were held, many clubs changed name following a national sports reform

Aleppo
Al-Ahly          were renamed Al-Ittihad
Al-Arabi         were renamed Al-Horriya 
Al-Soori         were renamed Al-Yarmouk

Damascus
Al-Ahly          were renamed Al-Majd
Qasioun SC       were renamed Al-Wahda
Barada SC        were dissolved

Deir ez-Zor
Ghazy SC         were renamed Al-Foutoua

Hama
Omayya SC        were renamed Al-Taliya
Al-Jamahir       were renamed Al-Nawair

Hasaka
Al-Hasaka        were renamed Al-Jazeera

Homs
Al-Fidaa         were renamed Al-Wathba
Al-Wahda         were renamed Al-Karama

Latakia
Al-Jalaa         were renamed Al-Qadisiya
Al-Sahel         were renamed Hottin

Qamishli
Al-Shabiba       were renamed Al-Jihad

In addition, starting from the 1972/73 season the army side (Al-Jaish) and
the police teams (Al-Shorta) enter the league
