Remarks on pre-WW II matches:

[0] The Corinthians FC, formed in 1882 as a strictly amateur side, were
the first foreign team to visit South Africa. Many players from this
famous club earned full international caps for England between 1888
and 1923. During their three tours of South Africa in 1897, 1903 and
1907 they played 71 matches (23 in 1897 and 24 in the other two years),
including 8 (listed above) against the South African "Test" side, also
    known as "Springboks".
[1] in 1906, a touring side ("Springboks") representing the South African
Football Association, considered the country's national side, toured
South America, playing a variety of club teams as well as league XIs
and a side called "Argentinos" which consisted of the best Argentine
players from the local league; it is an unofficial match for Argentina
but was considered an "official" "Test match" by the tourists. Apart
from this matches, the SAFA selection played 12 more matches in
Argentina and Uruguay, including one against an Argentine League XI
(Liga Argentina), won 4-1 on 15.07.1906, and one against an Uruguayan
League XI (Liga Uruguaya), won 6-1; on their way home they also played
a match in São Paulo against the Seleção Paulista on 31.07.1906,
won 6-0. The matches against the Liga Argentina and the Seleção
Paulista are also occasionally listed as 'official' international matches.
[2] an English FA selection toured South Africa on four occasions: in 1910,
1920, 1930 and 1939; during each of those tours, this selection played
3 "Test matches" against the Springboks, the official South African
team. While the English FA team were not the official national side,
it consisted almost exclusively of top professional players on each
occasion and was stronger than the England Amateur side which used to
make mincemeat of national sides from continental Europe in matches
considered official by their opponents (in fact, the star player of
the England Amateur side, Vivian Woodward, was part of the 1910 tour,
scoring twice in two of the three "Test matches"). The SAFA considered
these matches to be official and had the matches of the 1910, 1920 and
1929 tours listed in [FIF 31].
[3] in 1924, a South African touring team travelled Ireland, Britain and
the Netherlands from August 30 to December 3. They played 26 matches,
including 5 against 'national teams'. Of those five, one (the match
against the Netherlands) is an official international match for their
opponents; the others involved the Amateur sides of the FAs involved
and therefore do not count as official international matches; however,
note that many European continental national teams consider their
matches against e.g. the England Amateur side as official, and it is
clear from the mention of these matches in [FIF 31] that the SAFA did
    so at the time.
