1940 After four years of absence the Türkiye Futbol Şampiyonası was resumed in 1940 with a special format. The Millî Küme was also held. As a result there were two national championships from 1940 onward. The champions of the regional leagues not included in the National League competed in regional groups again, such as in the 1930's. The winners of these regional qualifying groups played against each other in a play-off, with the winners of that play-off qualifying for the final. 1956-57 Federasyon Kupası The Federation Cup was organized by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) to select a club to represent Turkey at the European Champions Cup, since the professional nationwide league was not introduced yet. The competition in 1956-57 consisted of two stages, the knockout stage and the Final Group. In the knockout stage the clubs were split into three groups with 10 clubs each. The second stage was contested in a Final Group, which was based on a double round-robin format. Beşiktaş won the tournament and thus qualified for the European Cup. However, since the TFF failed to register their name for the draw in time, they could not participate in the 1957-58 season of the European Cup after all.
